Awards Nomination Deadline Extended!


Please consider nominating a deserving person or team for a GLA Award. The deadline for nominations has been extended to May 29, 2012, and the awards will be presented at COMO/SELA in October. All awards except for the GLA Honorary Membership come with a beautiful plaque and a check for $100!


Visit http://gla.georgialibraries.org/comm_awards.htm to find all the information you will need:
  • list of committee members—ask if you have a question;
  • a printable nomination flyer you can print and post on your library’s bulletin board to encourage participation;
  • the nomination form, with awards criteria;
  • and a list of past winners.
Please note: there is a new award this year, the GLA team award!

The process is not complicated and it’s a great way to recognize people who make GLA and Georgia libraries great.

GLA Scholarships Application Deadline - May 21

The Georgia Library Association awards two scholarships annually to students completing a master's degree in library science. The Hubbard Scholarship, a $3,000 award, is intended to recruit excellent candidates for librarianship and defray some of the costs of their education. The Beard Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, is for applicants who show strong potential for leadership in the library profession. Recipients of both awards must agree to work for at least one year in Georgia following graduation but need not be residents of Georgia to apply.

The deadline to apply for the 2012 scholarships is May 21.

Librarian Certifications Expiring on June 30, 2012

Librarian certifications expire on June 30, 2012. They may go ahead and begin renewing their certifications online at http://www.sos.ga.gov/plb/librarians.

Please keep in mind that amendments to O.C.G.A. §50-36-1 became effective on January 1, 2012 requiring that all persons who are renewing their licenses must provide a Secure and Verifiable Document in order to complete the renewal of their licenses. Examples of secure and verifiable documents are driver’s license, U.S. passport, or green card. A complete list of secure and verifiable documents may be found on our website at http://www.sos.ga.gov/plb.

Librarians who are renewing their licenses may upload a copy of their Secure and Verifiable Document during the online renewal process, or they may visit the Board’s website at http://www.sos.ga.gov/plb/librarians, click on “Application Downloads” and select the “Secure and Verifiable Documents Cover Sheet.” They will need to complete this form using the instructions contained on the form, and submit their Secure and Verifiable Document along with this cover sheet. They may email their documents to chobbs@sos.ga.gov or may fax them to 866-888-1176. Licensees need to print their name and professional license number on any documents that they submit to the Board.
