Dekalb County Public Opens LEED Certified Branch
The new, state-of-the-art Tucker-Reid H. Cofer Library will open in January 2010. The dedication ceremony for the new facility is scheduled for Saturday, January 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the library branch's new location, 5234 LaVista Rd. (at the intersection of LaVista Road and Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker). The public is invited to join DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis, county commissioners, library trustees, administrators and staff for the ceremony, which will include a ribbon cutting, tours of the new building and refreshments.
The 25,000-square-foot building, designed by the architectural firm of Leo A. Daly and constructed by Hogan Construction Group, will hold 82,000 volumes and includes 42 public access computers, a computer lab, special areas for children and teens and a café. Service begins at the branch on Monday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m.

Georgia Library Association 2010 Annual Mid-Winter Planning Conference
Georgia Library Association Annual Mid-Winter Planning Conference (GLAAMPC) on Friday, January 29, 2010 at the lovely Downs Continuing Education Center at Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia. This kick-off meeting for 2010 is an important event for ALL members -NEW and OLD (not old old…I mean old hands…I mean those with more experience…okay, and just OLD). You will have the opportunity to commit to Committees, devise in your Divisions and show interest in your Interest Groups, as well as connect with colleagues from all over our State as we move forward through the year.

Kristin Stout GLA's 2010 ALA Emerging Leader
Kristin Stout has been selected as the GLA sponsored participant in the 2010 group of ALA Emerging Leaders. Kristin will receive funding from GLA to attend the ALA midwinter and annual conferences next year, where she will receive leadership training and work on collaborative leadership projects with the American Library Association and its state chapters.
Kristin is a Reference & Instruction Librarian and Instructor of Library Science at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah. She's held her current position, her first since receiving her MLS, since January 2008.
