Georgia Library Association Annual Mid-Winter Planning Conference (GLAAMPC) on Friday, January 29, 2010 at the lovely Downs Continuing Education Center at Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia. This kick-off meeting for 2010 is an important event for ALL members -NEW and OLD (not old old…I mean old hands…I mean those with more experience…okay, and just OLD). You will have the opportunity to commit to Committees, devise in your Divisions and show interest in your Interest Groups, as well as connect with colleagues from all over our State as we move forward through the year.

Kristin Stout GLA's 2010 ALA Emerging Leader

Kristin Stout has been selected as the GLA sponsored participant in the 2010 group of ALA Emerging Leaders. Kristin will receive funding from GLA to attend the ALA midwinter and annual conferences next year, where she will receive leadership training and work on collaborative leadership projects with the American Library Association and its state chapters.

Kristin is a Reference & Instruction Librarian and Instructor of Library Science at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah. She's held her current position, her first since receiving her MLS, since January 2008.

Seeking GLQ Book Reviewers

We are revising our procedure for reviewing materials for the GLQ. We would like reviewers to use new items from their own libraries as the review copies. We are asking that those interested in reviewing items should choose those that can be linked to the Southeast (history, gardening, biography, etc.), are written by a Southern author, or published in the South. We would also like to include children’s and young adult materials to the list along with AV materials. We also ask that reviewers not have a prior connection with the material as a researcher, family friend of the author, etc.

Please check with Karen Odom-kodom@houpl.org or Sarah smcghee@chestateelibrary.org to reserve the title before you submit if you are interested in reviewing for the GLQ under these new parameters.

Join the GLA Assessment Interest Group!

The Assessment Interest Group exchanges ideas and information in all areas of library assessment. Topics are chosen by members; previous subjects include measuring the impact and
effectiveness of library services, the use of focus groups, and qualitative assessment of instruction.

Activities planned for this year include a peer mentor/support program for assessment activities and presentations at some of the in-state conferences.

Join the Atlanta Emerging Librarians Group!

Formed in early 2008, this group is intended to create in-person connections between distance education library, information, and media science students and new graduates living in the Atlanta area. The group will meet every 2-3 months, and will provide time for mingling, snacking, and a presentation. Presentation topics will be determined by the group’s members.
